Education

We offer a wide range of accredited courses and alternative education.

Since starting our training packages 417 young people have gained formal qualifications or non-acredited training certificates of achievement, 42 Young people have joined and been pro-active on the Youth Committee planning events workshops and helping run the centre, and 5 Young people became volunteer managers of the centre and qualified as trainers delivering some of the accredited NOCN courses today.

List of accredited Courses at Entry 3 and level 1 NOCN:

Entry 3

  • Introduction to childcare:
    Young parenthood, Respecting Children, Introduction to food and nutrition for children and young people, Communication between children aged 0-3 and adults.
  • Can Do:
    Money - adding and subtracting, Speaking to communicate, Spelling and handwriting skills, Computer Basics, Health & Safety awareness, General skills for independent living.

Level 1

  • Childcare 2:
    Young parenthood, Understanding child development, Develop skills in caring for children, Introduction to developing language and communication skills in children, Understanding Play.
  • It's a Risk
    Drugs awareness for the individual, Alcohol awareness for the individual, Sex and relationships education, Understanding prejudice and discrimination, Young people Law and Order,
  • Jam Source:
    Using the internet as a medium for music, Develop music skills for solo performance, Acoustic recording techniques.
  • DJ Drop Zone:
    Rehearsing for production, DJ Skills, Digital sampling, Music ensemble skills. Open Doors Develop personal confidence and self awareness, Improving confidence, Health and Safety Preparation for Interview, Preparation for work, Work Experience
  • Promo Blueprints: (coming soon 2014)
    Design and Market yourself. Creating positive images, gateways into employment, creative problem solving.
  • Eddi Active:
    Peak Award, Duke of Edinburgh.

All our courses promote personal development.
All of our courses can be taylor made to suit the learners needs.

Placements: We also take on student work placements from Belper School. Derby College and Derby University. The Belper School students and other secondary School placements we get usually only last a week, so the level of involvement is quite basic but still a good experience and spring board into future work environments and further education. The college and University placements we take include more advance levels of Planning, Delivering, Recording, and Evaluating projects. We help students to reach a recognized good work practice, the students usually stay on these longer placement for an average of a term time.
